A few years ago, I was looking for a good house to buy. "A good deal," I thought, so I searched for foreclosures and short sales. I came across one in Norfolk's Riverview neighborhood. It's right off Granby Street, near the Zoo, and backs up to the Lafayette River. It's an historic neighborhood with houses anywhere from $150,000 to $600,000+. It looked to be priced right, and was available ONLY to owner-occupants at first.
So, I put a bid on it. And I won the bid. What I did not realize was that the property required flood insurance. It was to the tune of $1500 per year, on top of my required homeowner's insurance, which was around $1100-$1200 per year. 757-288-8680 | Southerland Real Estate, Inc. | 638 Independence Pkwy., Suite 240, Chesapeake, VA 23320
